How to become a public adjuster in North Dakota
North Dakota requires a public adjuster license. There is no statutory fee cap; in a declared emergency under 10% of settlement for catastrophic-disaster claims; the surety bond is $20,000; the governing law is N.D. Cent. Code ch. 26.1-26.8.

Getting licensed in North Dakota
The North Dakota Insurance Department issues the Public Adjuster license. It is its own license, so make sure any course or exam you book is the public adjuster one and not the company or independent adjuster version. North Dakota does not license company or independent adjusters at all; N.D.C.C. ch. 26.1-26.8 creates a standalone public adjuster license (individual and business entity) effective July 1, 2019, replacing the consultant license's public adjusting authority.

Register with PSI and pass the North Dakota Public Adjuster exam (100 questions, 120 minutes, 70% to pass, $58).

Get fingerprinted (LiveScan at a PSI center or elsewhere) and pay the $40 BCI fee for the criminal history check.

Obtain a $20,000 surety bond in favor of the Insurance Commissioner.

Submit the NAIC Uniform Individual Adjuster application on NIPR with the $100 fee, and file the bond.

Complete 24 CE hours (3 ethics) and renew by the end of your birth month every two years for $25.
