How to become a public adjuster in Alabama
Alabama does not issue a public adjuster license.
The Alabama Department of Insurance states it does not license or recognize public adjusters; Ala. Code ch. 27-9A governs independent (insurer-side) adjusters.

No public adjuster license exists here. Alabama does not license or recognize public adjusters. That is not a green light: representing an insured in a claim for a fee may be treated as the practice of law, and consumer-protection rules still apply.
Confirm the current position with the Alabama Department of Insurance before offering services. Some adjusters licence in a neighbouring state that does regulate the work; whether that helps depends on facts this page cannot speak to.
What the regulator says
-
Understand that Alabama does not issue a public adjuster license: the Alabama Department of Insurance states it "does NOT license or recognize public adjusters."
-
Note the practice-of-law issue: per NIPR's Alabama page, the Alabama State Bar takes the position that negotiating or adjusting a claim on behalf of an insured directly with the insurer is the practice of law, which under Ala. Code § 34-3-6(a) only licensed attorneys may do.
-
If you want to adjust claims in Alabama, the only adjuster license available is the independent adjuster license (working on behalf of insurers) under Ala. Code Title 27, Chapter 9A, which is a different job from public adjusting.
-
If you hold a public adjuster license in another state, do not assume it lets you represent Alabama policyholders; there is no Alabama license to reciprocate into.
-
Check the ALDOI Licensing FAQ ("Adjuster" section) periodically, since the regulator's statement is the controlling public position and would change if the Legislature ever created a public adjuster license.
