How to become a public adjuster in Oklahoma

Oklahoma requires a public adjuster license. There is no statutory fee cap; the surety bond is $25,000; the governing law is 36 O.S. § 6201 et seq. (bond § 6214).

The pathway

Getting licensed in Oklahoma

The license is the Public Adjuster. It is its own license, so make sure any course or exam you book is the public adjuster one and not the company or independent adjuster version. Issued by the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) under the Insurance Adjusters Licensing Act, 36 O.S. §§ 6201–6224; the Act licenses 'insurance adjusters' (for insurers) and 'public adjusters' (for insureds) as separate license types.

Not stated in these sources

These points were not stated in the sources listed, so we have left them blank rather than guess. Ask the regulator directly:

  • ·Eligibility background check: The Act contains no fingerprint requirement and OID's application page does not describe one; third-party sites say a name-based criminal history check is run. Not confirmed from a primary source.
  • ·Exam questions: PSI bulletin does not list question counts or time limits for the adjuster exams.
  • ·Exam name: That the Property adjuster exam is the one required for public adjusters comes from NIPR's Oklahoma page; the statute only says 'an examination approved by the Commissioner'.
