How to become a public adjuster in Nevada

Nevada requires a public adjuster license. There is no statutory fee cap; the governing law is NRS and NAC ch. 684A.

Getting licensed in Nevada

The license is the Public Adjuster. It is its own license, so make sure any course or exam you book is the public adjuster one and not the company or independent adjuster version. Issued by the Nevada Division of Insurance under NRS Chapter 684A, which licenses independent, public, company and staff adjusters as separate types; a person may hold only one type at a time (NRS 684A.050).

  1. Complete a Nevada-approved adjuster prelicensing course (20 hours under NAC 684A.220) and keep the school name and course number.

  2. Register with Pearson VUE and pass the Nevada Property & Casualty Adjuster exam (90 questions, 2 hours, scaled score of 70).

  3. Get fingerprinted through a Division-approved vendor within 90 days of applying, using the NIPR transaction number on the authorization form.

  4. Apply for the Public Adjuster license through Sircon or NIPR within one year of passing, upload the fingerprint waiver and receipt, and pay $185.

  5. Complete 24 hours of CE (3 ethics) during each 3-year term and renew for $185 before expiration.

Who can apply
At least 18 years old · Residents and non-residents · Application must show at least five years of employment history with no gaps (NIPR Nevada page). Must be eligible to declare Nevada as home state for a resident license; nonresident license available under NRS 684A.115. Cannot concurrently hold a property/casualty/surety producer or surplus lines broker license.
Prelicensing course
20 hours Division notice (effective July 1, 2018): a Nevada-approved prelicensing course of study is required before sitting for the adjuster exam, attested at the test center. NAC 684A.220 sets the course at 5 hours of Nevada law plus 15 hours of adjusting content. Waived for nonresidents licensed in good standing in their home state.
State exam
Pearson VUE · 90 questions · 120 minutes · pass at 70 (scaled) Same exam used for all four adjuster license types. NAC 684A.300 requires a score of 70 or more. Apply within one year of passing. Exempt if licensed in good standing in a home state that required an exam (NRS 684A.100, 684A.105).
Application
Sircon (www.sircon.com/Nevada) or NIPR · $185 application fee State exam fee (see unverified); vendor fingerprint fee; NIPR/Sircon transaction fee. $185 = $125 license fee plus $60 administration and enforcement fee. Upload the signed Fingerprint Background Waiver Form and fingerprint receipt with the application.
Background check
Fingerprints for a criminal-history report (Nevada Central Repository and FBI) through a Division-approved vendor, submitted within 90 days of applying; from January 26, 2026 the NIPR transaction number must appear on the fingerprint authorization form (NRS 684A.070(2)).
Surety bond
No bond required No bond requirement for public adjusters in NRS 684A or on the Division's Public Adjuster page.
Renewal
Every 3 years · $185 License continues for 3 years (NRS 684A.130); renewal accepted up to 30 days after expiration with a fee of 150% of applicable fees.
Continuing education
24 hours · Every 3 years · 3 in ethics NRS 684A.135 / NAC 684A.400: 24 hours per 3-year term, 3 in ethics, related to the line held; waived for nonresidents meeting home-state CE.

  • ·Exam fee: Pearson VUE handbook lists $37 for single-line and $47 for combined Property/Casualty exams; it is not explicit which rate applies to the P&C Adjuster exam.
  • ·Application fingerprint fee: Digital fingerprint pricing is set by each approved vendor; the Division lists only a $39 DPS fee for ink cards.
  • ·Prelicensing hours: The Division's page does not restate the hour count; 20 hours is derived from NAC 684A.220 (5 + 15 hours).
